Over the last few years trail running has picked up increasing popularity, especially here in Tahoe. With hundreds of miles of trail that wind through the pine forests, over the granite peaks of the Sierra, and along the high alpine lakes, it’s no question that Tahoe is the perfect place for trail running. Over the last few years, the organizing bodies in the trail running world have become more organized and have begun race series, one of which is here in Tahoe, the Tahoe Trail Running Series. Over the course of the summer nine races will be held under the Tahoe Trail Running Series, from Squaw to Emerald Bay these races crisscross around the Truckee Tahoe region.

Recently Granite Chief Employee Sarai Stroup took part in the Burton Creek Trail Run, part of the Tahoe series on June 23rd in the half marathon category. Running 13.1 miles in just under 2 hours and 15 minutes, Sarai placed 2nd in her age group and 67th overall. While to most of us this would be considered difficult, Sarai trained for weeks by running sections of the Sawtooth and Martis Valley trails. A well organized race, over 150 men and women participated and both the men’s and women's course records were broken.

The Tahoe Trail Running Series still has seven events left throughout the summer, the next being the Run to Squaw event on June 30th. If trail running is your thing, and a little bit of competition pushes you mentally and physically, check out the Tahoe Trail Running Series. Competition however is not for everyone, in that case go out and explore all Tahoe has to offer, from the Rim Trail to Martis Valley, there is a fun trail for every level of trail runner. And here at Granite Chief we offer a whole selection of trail running shoes, clothes, and accessories, so stop by before your next trail running adventure.
