Here is an update on the state of Tahoe trails from one of our wintertime employees, John Clausen. John is heavily involved in the building and maintaining of our trails and this is what he had to say:

"Hey all, my apologies for the "slow to post" trail update. As you may imagine, Covid-19 has impacted trail work around Tahoe as well. TAMBA will begin trail maintenance after the 4th of July. Trails have already been assessed, and points to address are marked ... The same goes for the TRTA. Truckee Trails Foundation has already had their paid crew out working hard for over a month taking care of necessary maintenance.
As for public volunteer days, those look very slim for this summer / fall. TAMBA will be keeping crews to 5 people only, including the crew leader. The remaining 4 will basically be "invite only", from a pool that the specific crew leader has worked with in the past, and where the individuals have a traceable contact related history. There are additional protocols that the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has put into place that TAMBA will be following as part of their partnership with the land manager.
With that being said, on the north and west side of the Lake, you will see: a bit of touch up work on Beaver Tail, the new trail in Kings Beach; a continuation of work on the new Stumpy Super G in Tahoe City; as well as further work up on Stanford Rock. As for Stanford, if you have not ridden this trail since all of the re-routing, go do it, and take the side trip to the actual Stanford Rock lookout. While you will still climb over 2,000', the ride up (and backdown if you choose not to go old school tech on the TRT into Ward Canyon), is sooooo much improved compared to the historic logging road. The "Tahoe City Gateway Trail" will also be reflagged for the CA State Park. The goal here is for Tahoe City, one year soon, to have a legal single track up from town, to the network of trails behind TC, Tahoe XC, and beyond.
I could go on, but this is long enough! There is also a ton of "stuff" / planning going on in Truckee. Get involved where you can, reach out to the non-profits, and help make it happen! TAMBA.org, TahoeRimTrail.org, TruckeeTrails.org, TruckeeDonnerLandTrust.org, and TruckeeBikePark.org.
One last note, our trails have been seeing a ton of use these last 3 months. Be kind, say hi, look ahead for on-coming users, and enjoy. Be healthy, be fit."
We hope everyone has been getting out safely and enjoying all the beautiful trails that Tahoe has to offer. If you do see some trail crews out doing work, be sure to thank them for keeping our trails awesome!
