The DPS Story

DPS was founded in 2005 when professional skier Stephan Drake formed a partnership with top ski engineer Peter Turner. The two men set out with the inspiring vision of making perfect skis for the true die-hard skier. Since then they have redefined ski shape and construction. They made the first all prepreg carbon fiber sandwich ski and perfected the Spoon Technology. They even coined a new term know as “slarve“ which is a phenomenon that happens on their skis. It’s something that you have to experience to really appreciate. Slarving is when you are simultaneously slashing and carving all in the same turn.

DPS 106’s

Today we are going to be specifically talking about the DPS 106 collection. With these recent storms in Tahoe the 106’s are absolutely perfect for these conditions. DPS offers the Wailer 106 Pure3 and the Wailer 106 Foundation and we are here to explain the differences.

Pure 3

The Wailer 106 Pure3 has that “quiver killer” feeling to it. Meaning that when you are on it you start to wonder if you’ll ever want to be on any other ski, despite the conditions. This ski has enough width to effortlessly float on deep pow days, a strong core to charge like a bull through crud, and brilliant shape that cranks deep carves on groomers. It’s a one-stop-shop for the many different terrain types we all love to ski. It’s even light enough to tour with yet sturdy enough to inspire confidence at the resort.  In the words of one tester- “This ski provides playful arcs across a wide range of terrain and snow. “

Foundation

On the other hand we have the Foundation 106. This ski has a new bamboo core giving it ample dampening. The redefined rocker and camber provide an effortless turn initiation that keeps the ski engaged for a smooth finish. We love skis that make you feel like a better skier, and with the shape and flex pattern of this ski that is exactly what happens when you step into the binding.
